New Years’ Eve is often a much hyped, over-anticipated, let-down of a night, but when you get to spend it with loved ones in a tropical island paradise, with a beautiful spread of delectable dishes in front of you, its easy to feel grateful.

A taste of Lima with Food C’s Barranco food tour
If I had a guiding principle when travelling, it would be that the best way to get to know a country is by its food and people, and there really is no better way to do this that with a foodie walking tour, hosted by a local. Enter… Food C’s Barranco Foodie Tour with the lovely Carla.
Degustation Dinner at Donde Jose, Panama City
When it comes to backpacking, or travel in general, I am a firm advocate of splurging on the things that bring you joy and create great memories. For Dave and I, a 12-course degustation dinner at a rising star establishment in a thriving metropolis definitely meets that criteria!
Charming Antigua, Guatemala
For once, we did not have an epic journey ahead of us to get from one place to another – Antigua was but a mere couple of hours by shuttle from Lake Atitlan. We almost didn’t know what to do with ourselves with less than a half day’s transit ahead of us!
Exploring Merida and the Yucatán
To me, Merida is the sparkling jewel of Mexico’s Yucatán region – vibrant, colourful, choc-full of culture and yet still maintaining the friendly, small town vibe that made it a worthwhile destination to visit in the first place.
Teotihuacan and Late Night Tacos, Mexico City
Alongside our two days spent exploring Mexico City, we also spent a day venturing to Teotihuacan about an hour outside of the city, as well as hitting the town on a Late Night Tacos and Mezcal Tour with Eat Mexico (our second tour with them, read about the first, our Street Food tour here).
Street Food Walking Tour, Mexico City
Mexico, and particularly Mexico City, prides itself on being a foodie destination, full of fresh flavours and regionally diverse dishes. But the country that brought tacos, salsa and enchiladas to mainstream diners around the world has a lot more to offer than these well known dishes.
Piccolo’s Corner, West Leederville
The weekend after arriving back from Thailand, Dave and I were up for a lazy Sunday brunch somewhere new. We had smashed a couple of the local brekky spots near us (Hardware Cafe, Little Sisto’s) and so after abit of internet research, we decided on Piccolo’s Corner in West Leederville.
Tuck Shop Cafe, Northbridge, Perth
‘Twas a lazy Saturday morning and as 10am rolled round, hubby and I made the decision to head into Northbridge for brunch, with a couple of reasons driving us – firstly, the Tuck Shop is one of our favourite breakfast spots, and secondly, that way we could walk into the CBD afterwards to view the Giants (massive marionettes from France). Sushia Izakaya & Bar, Brookfield Place, Perth
Japanese is one of my all time favourite cuisines – I crave the thought of picked octopus, chilled sashimi and especially love a gyoza or anything torodito. So when one of my girlfriends, Emma, suggested a double date with our hubbies at Sushia on a Saturday night, I jumped at the chance. Funnily enough, Emma and her hubby Brigg first introduced Dave and I to ‘non-sushi’ Japanese about seven years ago with a visit to Halu on Oxford Street so we were looking forward to a comparably delicious meal.
